Defining competence when hiring welders
“Certified welder” alone is not a precise staffing specification. Publiq needs the work details to assess suitable personnel.
Background and requirements
Identify materials, processes, dimensions and workplace. Describe qualification and inspection requirements and whether the work involves fabrication, installation or maintenance. Assess documentation against the actual task.
From information to agreement
Agree who provides procedures, equipment, access and inspection. Include any project-specific testing or personnel approval in the programme. Distinguish the supply of welders from responsibility for welding coordination.
Does one welding certificate cover every task?
This should not be assumed. Check the scope and validity of the documentation alongside the project’s specific requirements.
